About Toastmasters

ecome a better speaker

Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. Since 1924, Toastmasters has helped millions of men and women become more confident. The learn-by-doing program is a surefire way to help you become a better speaker. Just ask any of our members.

hat’s in it for you?

Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you’re speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters is an enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. You’ll learn and practice with people who are there for reasons similar to your own. Toastmasters can open an entirely new world of possibilities.

ow does it work?

The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill.

ake action

One action can start a chain reaction. Dr. Ralph Smedley formed the first Toastmaster club in 1924, meeting in the basement of a YMCA in Santa Ana, California. Currently, Toastmasters International has nearly 240,000 members in 90 countries. Our club is just one of the more than 11,000 clubs located around the world. A.C. Carlson, one of the founding members of Sunrisers, continues to promote Toastmasters 40 years after chartering our club. Your decision to visit Sunrisers may start a new chain of events.
